How to Discover Your Passion?
The question ”How to Discover your Passion?” goes back a long way. When I was a kid, my dad used to tell me, ‘Rita, you need to find your passion.’ People have passions; they paint, they sing, they play music… What about you? What do you do?
This quest to find my passion used to drive me crazy…
Passion, what is it really?
I romanticized the idea of passion so much that I thought it was something that made you happy, with no pain or difficulty.
To me, being passionate meant finding something, excelling at it, and labeling it as my passion. I tried dance, horse riding, singing, painting, and reading, but nothing came easy; everything required so much learning. I eventually gave up, saying, ‘Well, Dad, I’m not passionate about anything…’
Well, I was wrong.
In today’s age, people share their passions on social media. Some sing, some paint, and you’re overwhelmed by what appears as perfect content, songs, or dances.
Everything seems so easy and perfect that you forget how they got there in the first place.
You forget that being passionate about something is not just about enjoyment; it takes time, practice, and dedication. What you see on social media is only the final product.
So, how to discover you passion?
I won’t ask you the cliché, ‘What do you like to do?’ Because if you’re on my blog, I’m sure you don’t know, do you? I used to think I liked to party—could that be my passion? Well, I’m not sure.
However, I will ask you this: What is that one thing you see others do, and you think, ‘You’re so lucky; I wish I could do that,’ ‘I wish I had time for this,’ ‘This seems like so much fun, but I could never do it’?
Those are the things that draw you in the most, but you don’t pursue them because you’re scared, you don’t know where to start, or you doubt yourself.
Passion starts with a dream; it’s not something you’re immediately good at.
So, find that thing, think about it, imagine yourself doing it. How does it make you feel? If it brings happiness and excitement, then you’ve found what you’re looking for.
The rest of the steps depend on you and how you want to approach it.
Give it a try, read about it, watch YouTube videos, talk to people about it, or don’t—sometimes people can be discouraging.
So, How to discover your passion? Don’t label it as a passion; call it a dream and equip yourself to achieve it.
